"Mummy, why don't boys wear skirts?" asked the little boy at the supermarket checkout. He'd seen me wearing a modern kilt, standing in the queue ahead of him. His question reminded me of the time I asked the same thing of my mother - and I'm still waiting for an answer 55 years later. Perhaps there is no answer because there is no reason why a boy (or a man) shouldn't wear a skirt.

I'm a man and I like to wear skirts. Good heavens; a crime against humanity! Why, next thing you know, the women will be wearing our manly trousers!
Well actually, I'm a happily married man with two kids and a pet cat who happens to like wearing skirts (me, not the cat).
